It's time for the WE LOVE LUKA'S BRAIN sale!

As you are no doubt aware (man I love getting to say that), Luka Delaney of Kagerou is our studio buddy, roomie, and webcomicking guru. And if you know Luka, you know he has headbees. Tricky, tricky headbees that make it hard for him to get on with his life. And if you know headbees, you know getting them exorcised is a damned expensive prospect. Nevertheless, he's decided it's about bloody time, and contacted a good brain mechanic (known to Earthlings as a 'psychologist') and embarked on an epic journey to powerful laser-like mental focus. Or at least a bit less hand-washing.

Rah and I are behind him 100%. Only one problem -- artists can't afford shrinks. So we had an idea: we will dangle phat lewt before our darling readers, and raise money for the cause! And so, my friends, in honor of Luka's birthday and for great justice, it is time for...

THE COMMISSION BLITZ!

Here is the delicious snake oil we have concocted for your delectation. (Scroll down to find out how to order.) Behold:

Headscrew Button - $1 This snazzy one-inch pinback button shows your support for Luka... or at least shows that you like chibis with hardware through their noggins. Every dollar helps!

Color Chibis - $10 two characters, $5 each additional character Everyone loves Rah's chibis. Cute, expressive, brightly colored, and so individual!

Custom Color Handknit Wool Goodies I dye, I spin, I knit, and summer will be over before you know it. Here's your chance to get hand-dyed, hand-spun, hand-knit loot dirt cheap. I would love to make you a hat, a pair of arm warmers, or a scarf in your favorite color. To see what you'd be getting, click the thumbnails for bigger:

Arm warmers - $20 Handy even in the summertime; keep a pair in your bag for those 'too much air conditioning' moments.

Hat - $20 Simple, but with a cool spirally top.

Scarf - $40 Knitted in a fine rib for extra warmth; about six inches wide and five feet long.

How to order

Send payment to muzukashiitanuki@hotmail.com using PayPal -- that's Luka's paypal right there, and all the clinky doubloons go straight to him. With your payment, you'll have to include some information:

For buttons -- tell us you want buttons; make sure your shipping address is correct so they get there.

For chibis -- tell us you want chibis; no shipping address needed, they'll be high-res files. To describe what you'd like Rah to draw, you can either post your request here in the community, or email her at irkelm@yahoo.com.

For knitted stuffs -- tell us what you want me to knit, and the one or two colors you'd like (if you pick two colors, they'll be marbled together). Make sure your shipping address is correct. You can also include your head measurement for the hat, or the circumference of your forearm for the arm warmers, but unless you're a pixie or a superhero you don't have to; one size does fit just about everyone. You will also need to add shipping -- $3 if you're in the US or Canada, $5 if you're anywhere else.

If you can't use Paypal, You can send your request and payment via snail mail to:

Studio Whipping Boy
204 7th St. W. #103
Northfield, MN 55057

Thanks so much! We'll keep this sale open for at least two weeks. (We might extend it if Luka turns out to need expensive meds.) We love yooooooooou!

Maybe a silly question, but what kind of wool are you using, Jesse?

[info]gomichan

July 10 2008, 04:35:49 UTC 3 years ago

I get my wool at Sheep Shed Studio; it's the mill ends from the Brown Sheep Company. It's very fine and soft, sometimes with a bit of merino or mohair mixed in.

It is, it is! We took him out for pie, and turned out to be sitting next to someone else who was also having birthday pie. I guess it's a good day for birthdays!

Yes. Very yes.

PAYCHECK DAY WHY ARE YOU NOT HERE YET

Uh, I mean to say... do you have a hat with no itchiness? *has had bad luck with wool*

[info]gomichan

July 10 2008, 06:11:41 UTC 3 years ago

I can only do the custom color thing in wool, I'm afraid. It's very soft wool, though. Not scratchy at all. If you've just had bad luck, and it isn't an actual allergy, I think you'll find it quite nice.

Ok, I think I just sent $75 to Luka's email account from C Henderson/ kawaiipineapple[at]hotmail[dot]co[dot]uk but paypal went all weird and I'm not sure if you got the message too. So just in case, can I have a dark red hat and scarf and a button please?

Hm... I've been craving some knitted goodness ever since my last comfort blanket hat suspiciously went missing last time my mom put it through the wash...

Couple questions;

1. Do y'all still take well-concealed cash?

2. Do you accept the brightly colored monies of Canada?

3. Roughly how big are the hats you knit? I'm not fantastically big skulled or anything, but I do like a looser fit on my toques.

Few questions!

1. How long do you plan on taking commissions? (must wait 'til payday!)

2. Can I commission a single character chibi, rather than two?

[info]anonymous_bosh

July 10 2008, 15:03:25 UTC 3 years ago

1. Two weeks and possibly longer
2. Totally! Guess that would be $5, then, wouldn't it?

For snail-mail, are checks ok? Should they be made out to Studio Whipping Boy as well, or something else?

One of my vows was to send copious amounts of money to y'all once I had a paycheck.

Guess what! I HAVE ONE NOW!

Lo and behold, you post this. It's like it was meant to be.

Would like to buy something, but have no money right now.
Have you seen about sliding scale payments, thats what I did. They do some mathematics and figure out how much you can pay based on how much you have.
Good luck with the sale.
After I get money, might I make a donation for the cause of getting rid of Luka'a headbees? My husband will cry if on of his favorite artist peoples stops working on one of his favorite comics. (donation minus the buying of things I mean)
It is very tempting to send you a request, payment and my two favorite balls of yarn (they are so FUZZY) and gets a hats or a scarfs. I will have to see what I can get.
*wanders off muttering about money and warm head and throat gear for the coming winter*

[info]gomichan

Sure, I'd be happy to make you something with your favorite yarn! And your donation would be super welcome. ^_^

Hey Jesse, what would it take to get a scarf in that super-crazy nifty rainbow pattern I saw you use once-upon-a-time?

*bats eyelashes*

[info]gomichan

July 12 2008, 01:27:52 UTC 3 years ago

If you mean the gradient rainbow, I'd have to do that in merino, which is more expensive. I think I'd say $50 rather than $40 for a scarf. I can certainly do that if you like. ^_^

Paypal is being evil, so I'll be sending money through snail mail, but I had a question first. Would it be possible to do chibis of me and my friends? That'd be five chibis, which I know is a lot of work, and I have pictures, but they're not great.
Also, would you take donation money outside of commissions? Even if I can only think of one or two characters I want in chibi form, I'd like to send more than ten bucks.

Thank you!

[info]anonymous_bosh

July 15 2008, 17:45:06 UTC 3 years ago

Send short descriptions (eye color, likes/dislikes/personality, hair color if the photo isn't accurate) and yeah, real-person chibis are no problem at all! Hee - five chibis is nowhere near 'too much.' I think the most someone's ordered so far is eight, but I'm just waiting for someone to tell me 'fill the page!'

Also, yes, you can send extra. Luka will fret about not giving you full value, but we will sit on her til she calms down.

July 16 2008, 21:14:14 UTC 3 years ago

w00t!

I is stealing pin and chibis and either hat or armwarmers. 'cause I'm cool like that. money will come as soon as paypal transfers the funds so I can send em on.
I'll post details here since I'm sure to forget to email people tomorrow, but I'll do my best.
chibis - my two mains on World of Warcraft, Imbricaria and Faodhagain. Imbricaria's a nice light blue troll with magenta cornrows and lovely tusks, and Faodhagain's a little brown dapple turren with dark horns. they're both shamans, so perhaps cuteness with a totem? I dunno yet.
and I want a surprise from Jesse! I always need more armwarmers and more hats, so whichever he'd prefer to do in blue and silver marble. <3
I'll try to send emails, I promise *crosses heart*

Are your characters male or female? Reference would be awesome if you've got it handy, but I'm pretty familiar with WoW, so I think I could manage without it.

Can you line any of the wool goodies in matching-ish fleece? I'm allergic to basically any tiny amount of wool whatsoever.

[info]gomichan

July 19 2008, 08:53:05 UTC 3 years ago

Putting in a lining would take a long time and I'm not sure I could do a good job. But I could knit for you in something other than wool, though it wouldn't be handspun or custom dyed. Cotton or acrylic would be the same price as the wool. Something like bamboo would be a bit more spendy.

Actually, I could order some soy silk, I've been meaning to try spinning it... *thinking out loud* About $3/oz, +shipping, dye, and then the spinning... yeah, about the same yarn cost as merino, actually. So that'd be $25 for armsocks or hat, $50 for a scarf.

Ya wanna?

caput capitis apis - OK, my Latin sucks

To Rah, on the subject of chibis;

Could you perhaps do me two pictures each containing one character, rather than one picture containing two characters?

And do the said pictures need to be of 'your' characters, or can they be anything/anyone?

Thank you.

[info]gomichan

July 20 2008, 07:42:23 UTC 3 years ago

Re: caput capitis apis - OK, my Latin sucks

I can answer this one -- two single chibis is fine, and they can be anybody. If they're not characters she knows well, you'll need to describe them to her.

How're the headbugs going? I know mine are a constant battle.
